Looking at the etymology of the word, I see what you mean.

      SYLLABICATION: fan*toc*ci*ni
      PRONUNCIATION:   f=E4nt-chn
      PLURAL NOUN: 1. Puppets animated by moving wires or mechanical 
means. 2. A show using such puppets.
      ETYMOLOGY: Italian, pl. of fantoccino, diminutive of fantoccio, 
puppet, from Latin fantini, -, incredibly good-looking; augmentative 
of fante, child, short for infante, from Latin nfns, nfant-, infant.
