Ah but Mathieu, Pat Pickles also pointed out that each figure has it's own
distinctive percussive rhythm (music?). It is possible to act out a little
drama with them. I worked out a three billy goats presentation for Ted
Beresford who has several of these figures including a chorus line all
jigging together.

puppetry you have to shut your eyes and listen to the music.

Indeed, it looks awful after only a short minute of watching, if you are
used to more graceful, controlled movements. It's basically just a doll
bouncing crazily.

As with anything animated or not, I'm sure it can be made to work for a
puppet show. We just have to figure out how it works best for our purposes.

I was convinced of that by a company who made the classic "Ubu" play in
object theatre. In a temporary attack of closed-mindedness, I didn't even
want to see the show, having so many mental blocks about object theatre.
But I saw it anyway, since I was on the premisces at a puppet festival, and
there were so many praises about it. Many people I spoke to that day were
seeing it for the second or thrid time, and this was around their 420th
showing! I was stunned, from the very first moments. My face hurt from
laughing so hard and trying not to make too much noise. The things came
alive like no other puppet show I had ever seen! The main characters were a
vinegar pitcher, a hammer, a dishwashing mop, and a set of Teapots. It was
amazing! Since that day, I try not to jump to conclusions about anything,
since I saw that everything is possible. The company is Thé=E2tre de la Pire
Esp=E8ce, and the show is "Ubu sur table."
