Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Muppets

I am a fan of the Muppets, but I try to get my exposure to them in small
doses only.
Not all the episodes of The Muppet Show were thrilling to me.
I think my favorite Muppet is Uncle Deadly, a character that appeared maybe
three times on the Muppet Show, as a secondary character. More notably on
the Vincent Price episode. He looks like a cross between a gargoyle, a
dragon, and Scrooge from A Christmas Carol.
Deadly was drawn differently than most muppets, therefore built differently
(in shapes). I just love his design and how it evolved from the drawing (i
found out about it while seraching the web).

I do agree with you Roger, that there is a lot of muppet clones or
lookalikes or "of the same look" on PuppetHub, and indeed on the web. I
think their "style" has been done, so we should learn from it and move on to
something else.

Still, using the same materials and methods, we can come up with a wide
variety of puppet types and manipulations, as well as an infinity of looks
and finishes.

When I first started, I was exposed to the Muppet phobia from the more
experienced puppetmakers I read about on the web. I was easily influenced.
So I shunned so many techniques for a little while when I was too affraid of
risking the Muppet look. Now I know it's about what you do with it.
