yes- quite a spectacle.  reminded me of a sort of mega bjork music
video...(ironically she was banned from the country, after being invited to
perform opening night)

despite the magnitude of the opening ceremony, its beauty and visual power--
i cannot seem to remove from my thoughts the human rights issues that
surround the host country.  thousands of migrant workers who worked
tirelessly to build the impressive stadium were removed from the city
immediately following construction. siphoning of water from beijing's poor
areas to meet olympic needs.  cultural genocide happening in tibet.   list
goes on.

hey, i want the olympics to happen as much as anyone else.  but at what
cost?

more amazing to me than anything: not even the dalai lama has called for a
boycott of the country or its games.
