FIGURA EX MACHINA

I went to see this show today.
It was fun, I was impressed by his moves and the puppets themselves, which 
he created himself.
I was in a rush to deliver a finished contract to a customer, so I didn't 
get to stick around much, but I met Mr. Sarkadi briefly. He gave me his 
card, I shall send him the info for subscribing to Puptcrit.

>From what I read in the past about maironette shows, this show is a 
marionette variety acts show, with classic marionnette acts with his own 
twists. I particularly loved his cello character, playing itself.  I liked 
his very small marionette operated with a glove instead of a cross bar 
controller. I was very impressed with his skater and his trapeze artist. His 
drunken puppeteer marionette was making me uncomfortable at first (a drunk 
in front of kids??), then I got the joke.

The show's pace was good, there was not a single moment of hesitation. The 
music and the characters were international and colorful. The puppeteer's 
presence on stage was just right, in good balance with the puppets, wiyth 
some direct inreactions when needed.

The setup was very simple and suitable for a small stage, although I'm sure 
it can hold it's own on a medium stage as well.  The show felt too short for 
me, as I wanted more, but for the family audience out there in the park, 
with lots of small kids, I think it was the ideal duration. The public sure 
liked it! Sine we're not exposed to marionettes much in Canada, and even 
less so in Quebec, I think people are discovering it with awe whenever one 
show comes. So, let this be a hint to those companies who are looking for 
new touring grounds where their classic marionette acts are not at all "old 
fare".
