Honestly the sort of retail jobs that worked for me were book stores and comic book shops. Book stores pay better than most comic book shops. It might have something to do with the materials that we were selling, but I have found that you get people who at least read in those sorts of jobs. I like independent bookstore work better than chain but both are better than some of the other retail jobs I held when I just got out of college. I have found that one bad manager can ruin your whole work experience. Usually the ones who bully are running scared that their job is going to be yanked out from under them for whatever reason real or imagined with the exception of bullies that are directed related to the owner and they are a whole other kettle of fish.
