I'm amazed at such craftmanship!

This motivates me to learn more about carving wood, and get the proper tools 
(chisels, gouges, scroll saw) as soon as possible. Those exposed joints look 
amazing, so sleek!


I have a few newbie questions:

What is an extended universal joint with stops?
What is trunk fiber ball and socket with dowel pins?

What is a trunk fiber exactly, I can't seem to find it sold in regular 
hardware stores. What is/was the usual sort of supplier for this?
Might there be another name for it?
