Hi Alan,

Actually, that depends on where you are teaching. For those of us
without Teaching Certs, our teaching options are After programs, where
I would agree with all of the above that you mentioned, or Private
schools, where I would have to disagree.

Particularly with Quaker schools. I myself will be starting a teaching
job at a Quaker Private Elementary School this fall. I am done by 12:30
every day and I will have health benefits as well as a steady pay check.
Not a huge amount of money, but a know quantity. In addition, when we
bring our child home from Colombia, SA, we will also have the benefit of
half tuition for Him/her.

My understanding is, that at least with many of the Quaker school, this
is not unusual. I am personally doing it for the Health insurance
(chiropractic weekly, Hoo-ray) and for the tuition break. The cash is a
definite nice benefit.

But, you have to be willing to be an educator. I am very fortunate that
the school I am going to be working for believes strongly in education
through the arts and believes that in order to teach, you can't have
more than an 11 to 1 ratio (children to teacher).

So it is possible, but you might have to do some hunting and calling.
You can also look for Sub jobs at Private schools. Most pay between $75
& $80 for a whole day (8-3pm) and if you have some versatility, you can
pick up 3 to 5 days a month to help with bills. The benefit here is
that if you have a project, you simply are not available, when you have
a long stretch without work, you let the school know that you have more
availability.

That is just my two cents.
