Subject: [Puptcrit] College puppet programs

Barry University in Miami, FL offered some puppetry classes for a
while under the leadership of Pat Minnaugh (sp?). But, when she
died, the program did as well.

I am surprised that more theater programs don't offer puppetry, even
as a small supplement to the traditional theatre program.
Marionettes, especially, would be a great way for students to build
sets, do lighting, and costume actors for an entire show. Even if
they never manipulated the puppets, that alone could be
valuable. The "actors" could even be stock cloth marionettes the
students borrow for the project. But, I suspect most would prefer to
make their own. A "cookie cutter" set of patterns, doll heads, and
hands could be made available. This may be the only opportunity most
students get, to flesh out an entire full-stage show.
