Indeed, I've seen attention-grabbing actors posing as puppeteers before, and the result was really bad. The best puppeteers I've seen were always modest and focused on the puppet, on stage. It felt like they were there, but as integral part of the puppet, and not the other way around. I also know two puppeteers who started out as marching drummers in two different bands from different cities, joined a giant-puppet company, met there, and decided to join forces to create their own company, to do their prefered types of puppetry (and especially never have to perform with black hoods again). Most puppeteers I met started in other art forms, usually very different from puppetry, but somehow that background came in as great resources for the way they approached and did Puppetry. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
