Hobey did better than most in collecting damages and discouraging ripoffs. A dollmaker friend learned that Chinese knockoffs of her dolls were being duplicated and sold without permission. While she was abe to recoup something--it was just enough for a short trip to Italy, and she stopped making the pieces out of frustration (the imposter saturated her market). 

She was a one-person cottage industry

Corporations maintin full-time legal staffs._
