That has to be a typo error on the dates for Giuseppe Mazzulo ("1913-!888") unless he is one of the heroes on NBC TV's "HEROES" with a special ability to warp time.

I missed last night's episode of "Heroes" because I was standing in line for 4 hours or more at Philippe's restaurant with hundreds of other people in the heart of Old Los Angeles for the privilege of buying a French Dip sandwich for a dime and a cup of coffee for 5 cents, which was what they cost in 1908.

Many stood in line 5 hours or more to pay 15 cents for what would cost $7 max on a regular day (less than $2 an hour) which is good training for our economic crisis. From a practical standpoint. waiting that long to save $6 or $7 bucks was insane, but it was also a unique way to experience the real Los Angeles---a real cross section of our population---great for people-watching.

If you bought anything else on the menu, it cost regular price, and to get there on public transit cost (senior discount) 80 cents.

During the day/nite local TV news cameras covered the 100th Birthday crowd. We got inside after 10:30 p.m. and doors closed at 11 p.m. Being among the last meant that we got a free slice of birthday cake too.

I am old enough to remember Depression-era soup lines which also could stretch around street corners, but this was much more fun. We don't have a lot of century-old restaurants in Los Angeles.

If you have access to NBC TV, mark October 20 on your calendar, when as previously reported, the show is about an evil puppeteer.

David (and everyone)Most of the discussion has been about technique and
patents
and I confess I have not read all the posts about Topo so forgive me if I am
repeating information

Topo's creator was born 1923 and I as far as I know she is still with us

For some reason Topo is especially popular in Japan

Most of the articles say there were 3 operators (Maria being one of them)
and one voice person Gieuseppe Mazzullo. His dates might be 1913-1888 but I
am not sure about that

David
are you related to Miguel Covarrubias an extremely interesting artist?
