Thanks for your response. I think that price is reasonable for something like this. As you mentioned, I would agree that it is important to retain ownership of the puppet.

The one time I did something like that, I charged $1000 for the 
building and use of the puppet (it was a marionette).  After the 
shoot, I retained ownership of the puppet.  This was on top of my SAG fee.
