It sounds like you have the hand going up into the head, the neck  
falls at the wrist. It should give you great head mobility.

You have some kind of handle inside the head. Why not run pieces of  
string from that handle to the collar of the body, front and back?  
Side to side would work too I guess. You may need something to get  
the string away from your turning hand.

The higher up in the head you could fasten it the better it would work.

I like to hang bodies from string on rod puppets, it's completely  
frictionless. Maybe it would work in this case too.
