Hey Mathieu: I do hope you come to NY next week! We have PERFECT autumn weather right now! The best place to find out what's happening puppet-wise in NYC is here: http://hensonfoundation.org/index.php?nav=phny You could go to the Spaghetti Dinner and then hit up the late-night showing of Basil Twist's Arias with a Twist at HERE Arts Center! Plus La Mama theater is showing puppets from Japan - and Chicago's AMAZING Redmoon Theater will be playing their Hunchback at the New Victory Theater in Times Square. (That's kind of like an early Halloween party, eh?) And my puppet company is thinking of hosting a pumpkin-carving party at our studio - I'll let you know if it coincides with your trip! Would love to grab a coffee either way... As far as non-puppet things not to be missed: - I love all of the city zoos. The central park one is small and lovely. - the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is great. And Prospect Park (designed by the same people who did Central), that zoo, the Brooklyn Art Museum are all right there as well! - I'm not sure of any specific puppet/mask-type exhibits... - I love the Natural History Museum but it is huge and often crowded and can be expensive... - I'm sure I could come up with more off the beaten path stuff, but I can't think of much right this second. I don't know what to say about housing. I know that there is a pretty good hostel in Brooklyn and I know of a few women's housings, but that won't help you, eh? - Gretchen http://www.dramaofworks.com Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2008 22:22:38 -0300 From: "Deborah Hunt" <maskhunt-AT-gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Mathieu in New-York? Now if you were in Puerto Rico for these dates I could suggest a 10 puppeteer event called "Sobre la Mesa"... saludos Deborah On Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 9:07 PM, Mathieu Ren? <creaturiste-AT-primus.ca> wrote: > Hi all. > > For my upcoming birthday, I'm seriously considering going to New York City > next week-end (24th to 26th or just two days), and I'm wondering: > > - who (Puptcritters, colleagues in puppetmaking and maskmaking) I > could/should/must meet, > - things to do/see (shows, museums, puppet store, artist studio, bookstore, > indoor Garden, magical doorways to another world), > -A good early Halloween party to go to (a guy can dream, right?), > - possibilities of being hosted for free/cheap/labor/trade for two nights? > How about a pro puppet or a mask (in my inventory or a near-future order) > in > exchange for two nights maybe?
