It is folded inside the chrysalis. Once the chrysalis opens and the butterfly hangs from its velcro feet, I push rigid wires into the tubes which have rod handles on them to flap the wings. I switch the chrysalis twice during the performance. The last one is plastic which I did a vacu-form kind of fabrication, without the vacumn. I heat the sheet plastic and form it around a wooden carving of the chrysalis. I have a cut out of the negative shape of the profile of the chrysalis Which I press down as the plastic softens.
