Alan

I too am familiar with the late Mr. Atwater and his deeds
Too bad such relatively rapid Karma does not happen more often.
Evil seems widespread in recent times.

I do think Machiavelli got a bad rap, mostly because THE PRINCE is not
well understood.
After all he merely describes what I see as a definition of
"politics": the method of acquiring and keeping power.
It was accurate then and still is.
But Machiavelli (who was tortured horribly while imprisoned, never
convicted of the conspiracy charges he was accused of, and eventually
freed) proposed a much more moral politic. He maintained that the
hideous ways used in acquiring and keeping power, be "swift,
effective, and short-lived", whereas today's politicians are mired in
ego driven selfishness, greed, corruption and degeneracy. Our American
politicians practice of evil is seldom "swift, effective, or short-
lived", but more often plodding, ineffective, and goes on for decades.
