I'm writing this from memory, so paraphrasing. Forgive my inaccuracy.

In the NYT obituary for Robert Graves, it mentioned that he  
encountered a banker acquaintance on the street who remarked that  
"there isn't much money in poetry, is there." Graves replied "there  
isn't much poetry in money either, so I guess we're even."
