Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Permanent Puppet Theatres

One group that many of the Puppet Theaters (brick and mortar, not just
companies) belong to is UNIMA. You'll probably have to add a country
designation after it to find a listing, ie UNIMA- USA for that are.

There are a fair number of puppet theaters in the US that I can think
of off the top of my head:
The Puppet Co. Playhouse in Glen Echo, MD (the only puppet theater in
the US conceived and built from the ground up specifically for
puppetry)
The Puppet Showplace in Brookline, MA (near Boston)
Goat on a Boat in Bar Harbor, LI, NY
Penny Pretzel Playhouse in Orange, NJ
The Center for Puppetry Arts (with two theaters in the same building)
in Atlanta, GA (also hosts UNIMA-USA, and a puppetry Museum)
The Greater Arizona Puppet Theater in Phoenix, AZ
Wonderment Puppet Theater in Martinsburg, WV

several I can't think of the name of at the moment, including
one in San Diego in a park
one in Oakland in a Storybook Park
one in Seattle/Portland area I believe
one in Minneapolis, MN
one or two in Florida

and I'm sure I've missed some

Also in Japan I know there is PUK Puppet Theater in Tokyo and The
National Bunraku Puppet Theater in Osaka. Both PUK and NBPT also tour,
but they have home theaters. I think there are others in the country,
but I'm not positive.

I would be willing to bet that, with their history of puppetry, China
has several. And there used to be one or two in Russia, as well as some
of the Eastern Block countries, but I don't know if they are still
around.

Have you tried a Google search? Also someone on this list maintains a
list on their site that includes many puppet theaters. I believe Tackey
(or something like that), so you might do an archive search of the list
as well.
