Subject: [Puptcrit] Tempest Weblog - November

Friends-

Here's my monthly summary of posts on our weekly weblog on the
evolution of our puppet staging of THE TEMPEST, opening Sept. '09.
Hope you'll visit; comments & questions welcome.

             http://www.independenteye.org/news/index.html

(No posting the first week of this past month, having been obsessed
with the election.)

#8 - Storyboard for Act 1 Sc. 1, the storm.

#9 - Our first workshop with actors. Work on voice & its linkage
with physical action. Shakespeare's realism with an expanded
stylistic expression. Iambic pentameter's unkillable assertiveness.
Making puppets breathe.

#10 - Storyboard continues: Act 1 Sc. 2, Prospero & Miranda.

#11 - The recurrences of the storm. A new puppet technique (if my
lame wrist heals). And thoughts about the singular notion of casting
Prospero as a male.

Peace & joy-

ps - I'd especially appreciate any comments or wild ideas for
improvements on the technique briefly illustrated in #11. Using it
for just one puppet in our production of RASH ACTS in January, but I
think it may have a lot of potential.for our larger-scale (about 3/4
lifesize) puppets.

Also wondering how many of y'all do storyboards for new pieces. I've
only just begun this, find it very useful, at least in getting the
skeleton of the concept clear.
