Note to self: search for how-to-sharpen-chisels videos...Done! Now I've got some not-yet-perfect-but-workable chisels and u-gouges! Sharpening videos at the end of the list. Sorry, I couldn't find any sharpening video featuring u-gouges. Therefore I messed up one of my u-gouges, but now it's "more than ok". WOOD CARVING VIDEOS: Puppet carving course by John Roberts at the little Angel theatre in London. Was posted at least twice on Puptcrit before, but it's always fun to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1MiMcU6c2s Extremely detailed carvings in Teak wood, from Thailand. Some pieces take two workers an entire year to make. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIPM4reXyAo Maskmakers in bali: This seems insanely thin for a wooden mask, yet is probably strong enough! Marvelous! Look at his tools and practical tool holder! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjFjwl0PxwA Another bali mask maker. This one seems to earn a good living from his masks (house, temple, land). Some carving scenes near the end of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVCVbqn46ao Chainsaw Art. This can be an example of boldness married with precision. I don't have a chainsaw, but as soon as I can get a cut-off saw (toothed wheel) on my Dremel, I'll try a similar approach, in a much smaller scale. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1YefjKujY0 Scott McNeill bas relief videos: Very very nice, deep, and detailed carvings! Some of his videos are filmed closer to subject than most carving demos I've seen online so far. http://www.scottmcneillart.com/*VIDEO.html Cellars with sculpted bas reliefs I find out after the web search that he's from my hometown, and that I've seen some of his Shop signs downtown when I was there last week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbsAe55sOr0 SHARPENING WOODCARVING TOOLS VIDEOS: Sharpening flat chisels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yvJavgK6mo Other sharpening approach, with safety tips. The narrating is so dull-toned it becomes funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH_WfVAAtyg _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
