If there is any competing light you will need very bright lights. For focused light I use six inch fresnel spot lights without the lense. I don't hold them though, they are fixed. I would get in touch with a theatrical supply house and find a compact lightweight fixture with at least. 300 watt bulb with a fairly compact filement. You might get away with household fixtures and 200 watt clear glass bulbs. That would be fortunate if it is bright enough. Other wise I'd ask some of the others on pupcrit to see what they use. Most of the hand held lights I have seen in use were used in complete darkness and therefore were more in the 150 watt range which meant they were smaller units with just sockets with a bulb on a rod. Also be aware that these bulbs are quite fragile , especially while in use and you can break filements easily. They can also explode and burn you so I'd recommend goggles at the least. Several of the dancers will be holding them so they can move the light into the space with the music. My plan is to use the light tripods to actually hold up the set pieces. I think the two smaller ones (with windows for shadow puppets) will be about 6' wide x 7' tall. > > The screens will be muslin - what is the best source for focused light? > > Pam > >> Date: Sat, 10 Jan 2009 10:51:52 -0500 >> From: hobeyone-AT-gmail.com >> To: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org >> Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] using photo light tripods for building free standing sets >> >> You'll want the lights within about 3 ft of the shadow screens I would >> think. We will be using masks, dancers, rod puppets and shadow puppets. My plan is to build three free-standing set pieces - two center stage pieces representing buildings (shadow puppets appear in several of the windows during the night scene) and a longer piece upstage representing more of the village with hills in the distance. >> > >> > Naturally, we want to be able to haul it all around easily in a minivan. >> > >> > Anybody have any tips or suggestions?
