I will be doing a large viper snake head this month using this method. I am using the pink foam that is used for insulation. So far I have cut several pieces of foam, around a 4 x 8 sheet of foam with no signs of the bit becoming dull. Woah! 5 inches tall? Yikes, that explains the blurry pics, smaller subjects are so hard to photograph without special lenses (I don't have any, so I choose the highest quality on my digital camera, place it on tripod, provide plenty of light, shoot from a distance, and re-frame the pics with a photoprocessing software, like photoshop or Gimp.) What sizes can your 3D printer handle? Could you "slice" your mesh, "print" each body part separately, then assemble by hand, to make bigger models? Is this regular pink insulation foam, or some special kind that works with the printer? The blades must get dull pretty quick. Unless it's a laser or a hot wire? ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Hennes" <williamhennes-AT-charter.net> To: <puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org> Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2009 7:59 PM Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] pink foam sculpts and mouse armature Thanks Mathieu and Hobey! Well Mathieu, rest assured your mind is not going to blow up:-) This are produced in a desktop 3D printer. I first build the mesh from scratch and then export the file over to my 3D printer. Once they are printed out, I add more detail to them by hand. The undead guy is about 5" in height.
