Hi, Sorry if this is a bit long winded...Do hope you take the time to read it though! Just wanted to put in 2 cents about joining both organizations (and I do believe it can be done via credit card). I joined P of A in 1976 (I think) (was a young actor at the time) (1976 was before I had ever done a show). The experience at the first festival (attended) cemented my interest and love of puppetry as a Theatrical medium parallel to none other. The organizations were (and are) populated by some very fine and accomplished people. Some well known and some not. I have a career going on 32 years in large part due to the sharing of information and support found from those who also love the medium and help maintain the organizations. Thank you so much! Being a member of UNIMA was an outgrowth to my membership in P of A. Connecting to the WORLD. Wow. Puppetry can overcome a lot of (artificial and real) barriers. The 1980 festival in Washington D.C. was this kind of highlight and truth for me. The difference (I) found between "theatre people" and "puppet people" has a lot to do with a love of medium and a desire to see it always presented, better and better. Even "the BIG names" (were) and are willing to help the up and coming. Mentoring so to speak the way Spielberg talked about it at the Golden Globes. The magazines are one of the biggest benefits. I took Martin Steven's correspondence course offered in the back of journals in the 70's. I am not a "group" type. I am not a committee type. I don't volunteer for ANYTHING! Ever. So the only thing I can contribute is paying my dues and being a member and reaping the enormous rewards of that. Again I do thank those that are capable - of making it possible for me to have this advantage. HOWEVER and this is important -- without constantly new members without membership growing there is a danger of stagnation and loss. It would be such a serious loss to our community. To me (even though it is not technically so) Puptcrit is an integral part of all of this. What Malagosia has done (on her own) is incredible and so valuable. I was totally amazed the first time it was made clear to me that everybody who was on Puptcrit was not also a member of the organizations and visa versa. The festival in Atlanta looks to be very exciting - sort of a mini 1980 Washington. So now is the time to join. Don't let the opportunity pass you by. Please, please dear companions in this wonderful world - this dysfunctional but WONDERFUL family...if you are not a member NOW is the time to join because of this great deal. It only has benefit, to you and the current members. Sorry for going on...but the feeling after a festival is unique (um a high - if I remember what that was like REALLY)..... Being a part of P of A and UNIMA (and my guild) is also.......so much gain.
