Spring 1995 issue of Puppetry Journal has an excellent article by Bernice
Silver about Pete Seeger and the Vagabond Puppeteers. The article includes
photos, a poster, a map of performance locales all over NY state. The shows
took up the cause of farmers who were not getting a fair price. The article
reports that Pete Seeger played the part of a wise cow who gave advice to a
beleaguered farmer. (as well as providing music)
Bernice, a legend in puppetry, is a few years older than Pete Seeger. The
two friends work regularly with Clearwater, an environmental advocacy group

Pete Seeger had a significant role in the development of the rights anthem
"We Shall Overcome." according to wikipedia there was a gospel song "We will
overcome" that Seeger published in a folk music magazine.
from wikipedia
Seeger writes: "I changed it to 'We shall'... I think I liked a more open
sound; 'We will' has alliteration to it, but 'We shall' opens the mouth
wider; the 'i' in 'will' is not an easy vowel to sing well [...]."[6] Seeger
also added some verses ("We'll walk hand in hand" and "The whole wide world
around").
