Subject: [Puptcrit] RASH ACTS opening

Friends-

If you're within leaping distance of the Bay Area, come see
RASH ACTS, playing the next three weekends (Jan. 23-Feb. 7). Info at
http://www.independenteye.org/stage.html, and you can see a few more
photos at http://www.independenteye.org/press.html. There's ticket
info on the Stage page, but if you'd like comps we could probably
manage that in exchange for warm hugs. In a couple of months we'll
have a DVD of the show.

Last May's DESCENT OF INANNA was a big leap for us, and this
is bigger, with a wider range of styles. It's five plays, 12 to 18
minutes each, and I'm damn near wrung dry with having built 32
puppets (42 if you count 10 little finger creatures) while also
developing THE TEMPEST for mounting next September. But it's my own
fault for thinking we'd slide this simple little show into the
schedule.

I wouldn't call us world-class yet - a long way to go on
technique - but I'm steadily seeing one creature, then another,
suddenly take on real life and start to react spontaneously without
being strangled into submission by its puppeteer. Most manipulation
problems are really basic acting problems: finding a physical
vocabulary of reaction and then, dammit, just reacting.

And this is my very first show involving hand puppets (in two
of the stories), and I'm finding I really love the dorky little
things.

Peace & joy-
Conrad B.
