Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Flexible medium

Fun you should mention this since it just came up on a doll group I am
part of.
It was about painting dolls and an undercoat that would work well with
the curves of the doll head

The recipe for the messy mix was in an article by Helen Pringle in the
1998 issue of Cloth Doll magazine. This is what she uses for her
painted dolls, and I believe Deanna Hogan uses this on her new Aminity
doll as well.
You use 1/2 acrylic gel medium and 1/2 modeling paste applied in
multiple thin coats to all areas that will be painted. I use Golden
brand found at www.dickblick.com Helen Pringle uses Liquitex brands,
and those are available at Micheals. Use a good brush and save it for
this medium. Mix small amounts as it dries quickly. I use Helen's
recommendation of a 3/4" soft nylon fan tip brush. Add water
sparingly, a few drops at a time. too much water will produce poor
adhesion and it will crack. Allow each coat to dry and sand lightly
after 2nd coat, and each coat after. 4 or 5 coats will produce a nice
finish to paint that will not crack and remains flexible.

Hope this helps-
Kath
