As for Rajasthani marionettes, what sources have you already checked? Bil Baird's ART OF THE PUPPET has some good photos of puppets in India. Recent imports of Rajasthani marionettes are more crudely carved than earlier ones---quickly made for the market. In the 1960s barrels of old, soiled but wonderfully carved examples could be purchased in Los Angeles from $3 to $25 each. I have not seen any of that quality locally since those days. In my collection of international folk puppets I have some Nepalese "durga puja" puppets. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this tradition and how the shows are performed.I was hoping to include this with my puppetry traditions presentation. I am also interested in learning more about Rajasthani marionette shows. Any ideas?
