I checked the book, and the title of the story I was refering to is: The Maiden Without Hands. I just read it again, and there's a strange discrepancy. Sometimes they talk about her arms being cut off, sometimes it's just the hands. Might be a translation oversight... These Grimm Brother tales are full of weird discrepancies anyways, lack of logic that even a kid can see. Somehow, it gives them character. Maybe it even helps kids develop their critical thinking. For a few examples, the armless daughter is supposedly safe from the devil, but decides to go out into the world to depend on people's kindness! She's hungry and thinks she'll die of hunger, so she eat one single pear and goes to sleep. Wow, those german pears are nutritious! Later in the story, the king looks for her, by himself, during 7 years (without eating no less), without even thinking to use his vast kingly resources to locate her. Of course, in storyland, logic does not have as much sway, thankfully. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
