But you know, those "kings" in the European folk tales didn't 
necessarily have vast resources.  The word "king" there just denotes 
a feudal lord.  The dominion of such a king could have been quite 
small, and he himself seriously impoverished.  All we know is that he 
owned some land and perhaps that he had least one serf.
