Ah, we didn't address the audience/market or if this is intended to be a hobby or a profession. Would make a huge difference in choice of material and who you address adapting the story. I firmly believe there is an audience for almost anything, but thinking that audience will beat a path to our shows is one sure formula for failure - in a negative way. I am not too keen on most (any?) cutesy shows, be they aimed at children or adult. Why bother? Remember a little show called Sesame St.? It is aimed at very young children, yet has heart, intelligence, and substance. Aiming a puppet show at an older child and/or adult audience bring a whole set of difficulties in marketing, but it can and is being done. Just be aware that the puppet road to adult and older child audiences is rarely paved, so attaining success may require a 4WD or SUV. That audience is out there, they're just harder to find and reach, IMO.
