When I first got into puppetry, I feared I would be obsolete before I even got going, due to the increasing special effects I saw in movies and TV. How could I possibly compete with that? However, I am now more than ever a firm believer in a good story being the most important thing. A performer can have the most beautifully sculpted puppet, or scenery, but if the story isn't there, the audeince won't soon be either. I believe that as the world becomes increasingly high tech, people such as puppeteers will become even more unique. Street performers will become like dinosaurs coming back to life. If our lousy economy ever comes back (hopefully within a year or two), I think puppeteers will be in greater demand than ever.
