A perfect example is the Br'er Rabbit stories. When they took out the dialect in the sixties they fell flat! Now the dialect is back (though not as much as the original) and the fun came back too. Nancy

Um-- they took the stories from dictation, because they found old  
storytellers who told their stories as the brothers copied them down, with  all their 
dialect and errors intact. They did not "clean them up."
