I myself am passionate that children should know these tales. We now have a
19 month old daughter and I plan on reading her these and other faery tales
regularly as she grows.I would like for her to really know them.

We do not have a t.v and my daughter has never seen a Disney character or
any other type of movie character. It is my hope that we can maintain this
throughout her early childhood. Instead of the Disney versions she will no
the real versions and in this way her childhood will be filled with wonder,
myth and magic. In addition, I am a huge fan of the early children's book
illustrators, in particular Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac , Goble and others
of that genre. There is something in those images, very archetypal, that
speak so profoundly to our subconscious, children particularly. The images
are similar to the stories , slightly twisted but very moving. I know for me
as a child how much the images and stories resonated. I do remember them
being scary, but I was o.k with that.

It does make me so sad to see the way our modern media insults the
intelligence of today's children by filling there lives with such junk aimed
mostly at making money and selling products.

We need stories that honour the growth and journey of children through there
lives, that speak to them in symbolic and meaningful ways.

It is my hope to provide this through puppetry and I am so in awe and
appreciative of all of you who are already doing that and have paved the way
for a novice like me...
