So here it is for December & January. And our first videos, not of the production, just some simple character explorations. We're at <http://www.independenteye.org/news/index.html>. Strange to post this in light of the discussion on scripts. A full-blown Shakespeare text doesn't really seem to meet the criterion of the-fewer-words-the-better. But that's what we'll be doing, and with MACBETH we got away with it. Though I should say that in our workshop experiment, we reduce each scene to about ten lines max, and interesting things happen. I welcome comments & questions & wild ideas - there's a place for comments on the blog. And please pass the link along to friends, students, or colleagues who may be interested in puppetry, Shakespeare or creative process. Next week I hope to post another storyboard, if my opening-night post-partum bronchitis clears up. Sculpting starts tomorrow. Peace & joy- Conrad Bishop *** Tempest #19 -- Three Calibans Video & more thoughts about Caliban stemming from our last workshop. And wrestling with the play's gnarly ending. Tempest #18 -- Three Mirandas Video exploring multiple conceptions of the character, focused on first Miranda/Caliban scene. Why does Prospero force this scene to happen? Tempest #17 - Magicians Renaissance magic and modern-day Thelema: how do they relate to Prospero's immersion in accessing his power? And a plausible back-story for his entering this world. Tempest #16 -- Sunday's Workshop First January workshop: sound-movement explorations, vocal analysis, and staging the first Prospero/Miranda scene cut to ten lines (for the workshop, not for the show!). Tempest #15 -- Caliban & Prospero - Storyboard 1:2C Storyboard of the first Caliban scene; key moment his sole direct exchange with Miranda. Tempest #14 -- Spirits and Congruences First draft design for the puppeteers' masks as the island's spirits. And a real-life model for the magical Prospero: a friend who missed the zenith of his auspicious star. Tempest #13 - Prospero Summons Ariel - 1:2 Storyboard Storyboard of his struggle with the demon he's enchained. And a variety of responses. -And of course the many pages going back to September are still open to the world. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
