Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Costuming a Puppet

My first ever completed puppet is still one of my favorite when it comes to
movement.
Its body, except for the head and hands, was made of fabric and fiberfill.
It was hand sewn.

I don't know what came over me back then, to make something so efficient in
simplicity.
Maybe beginner's luck, because sometimes I forgot about this lad (Virgil),
and nearly lost my mind trying to invent something far too complex for my
needs. Now Virgil has a place of honor in my studio space, and I shant
forget him, or his technical solutions!

One important tip I learned from it, was to make the costume's shoulders so
that they would allow more movement. If this is not taken into
consideration, the puppet will lose some or most mobility of the arms.

A later puppet forced me to make the costume's arms separate from the torso,
attached to the arms only. The fabric was folded so that it hid the
underside of the arms.
We barely noticed that the coat was not a single piece, as the space between
was subtle.
