When you do an inventory it leaves a clear message that this stuff has some value to you. If you dont do all your books- do some of them- the important ones. What you choose to inventory gives some idea what is important to you -not just books if you inventory some of your puppets, but not those 2 or 6 or 8 boxes of puppets that are unfinished or just didnt work out- that provides a clue as to what is important, at least to you. Photos of puppets are helpful and with digital photos and computer storage that can be done with almost no cost Record your shows. Many people, even puppeteers, can read a script and not understand or visualize how it will actually play. A finally-crafted highly-polished foolproof phrase in your show, might fall completely flat when someone else attempts it. A video/DVD will preserve your work for those who care about it, and it can serve as a guide for those attempting to use a script. Have somebody interview you Now you might ask- Have I done all this for myself? No, of course not Libraries There are lending libraries and study libraries Most serious theatre collections have material that must be used on premises and does not circulate. The Center for Puppetry Arts has a very comprehensive collection of books magazines and programs but it is not a circulating collection. The Ballard/U Conn and Lincoln Center have excellent study collections of material On Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 7:32 PM, <puppetmaster-AT-puppetswithpizazz.com> wrote: > I thought of leaving my large collection of books to the library but just > recently I went to check on the status of puppetry books as they moved to > the new facility and found that they had culled Fetig's wonderful "Hand and > Rod Puppets" from their collection because the computer registered that it > wasn't checked out often enough.
