I just finished my first pair of Thai Fisherman Pants. Which makes me think they could be the basis for very comfortable black pants for puppeteers. Some of the extra fabric could later be nipped and/or tucked after trying them on, to avoid the dangers of overly-loose clothing: snagging on something, and faling alseep during a show because too comfortable... For puppetry, I currently use loose black pants I found in the ladies section of a thrift store. Very comfortable, very breathable fabric and they don't look ladylike at all. Kinda like Genie-of-the-lamp pants, but a lot less puffy. You'd be surprised what a guy can find in the ladies section, if he's brave or crazy enough to try. The cuts may be different, but some pieces of clothing fit guys anyways, like sweaters and some pants. My best turtleneck sweater was supposedly made for ladies. It fits me like it was tailored to my shape. Back to the Thai pants: One size fits all adults. All you need is 2 meters of fabric and about an hour (with a sewing machine). It's exceedingly easy(easiest pants I ever made), and very comfortable, despite the doubt that got into my mind at about 75% completion of the process. So, if you try it, just stick with it. The only modifications I made: 1) I made it out of polar fleece (wonderfuly warm!). 2) I doubled the height of the top panel I sure will make myself a pair for the summer, with a very light open weave fabric. Make sure you read the portion that explains how to wear the pants. It's easy, but a bit unusual. The very complete pattern with instructions: http://boom.bolenat.com/page.asp?page=make_fish Now if only there was a shirt pattern that's just as easy to make, of a similar style... When I first started sewing by necessity (puppetmaking), I would never have imagined I'd be making some of my own clothes for everyday wear, and enjoying them so much! Now that I understand the principles, pattern making and sewing themselves become enjoyable. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
