They had articulated very well how as children mature they feel like puppetry is a vestige of their infancy and do everything to put themselves at arms distance. I forget how they put it exactly, but it is something to consider. I happen to have the program in my class. A key element in this program is Moe, a green frog puppet (make by Folkmanis). He is cute and huggable and the kids respond to him. However, I got truly offended when the moderator said that Moe was the one thing that was not age-appropriate for older kids using the same program. Insulted was more like it! Seriously, students of any level should not feel as if they are babies if a puppet holds their interest. In fact, as most of us know, puppetry has for the most part been forgotten by anybody over 10 unless there is an instructor around to initiate the use. Of course, it seems that curriculum people are also more interested in pushing abstract terms of algebra onto students who may not have the capacity to understand.
