With good reason. In some of the venues I do, musicians are paid less than
we are, because the promoters say-- well, we can always find other musicians,
but how many other puppet troupes are there? -- but then, I live in Louisiana,
where there is always a musician next door, or at farthest, across the
street, but no puppeteers. And then on the streets of the Quarter in New Orleans,
there is a different musician/ensemble on each corner, and the competition
there is vicious. So a visual element can turn the trick. And a puppet, well,
many people bring their kids. Plus they like you better if they can take their
 picture with you.
Cheers,
Alice

Alice,
That world is bigger than you may think. Medieval studies affects many
disciplines! What I think of when I see the Marionettes a la Planchette is the
need for musicians to offer something visual in order to bring in more
audiences/money. It's less of a theatrical form for me.

Maybe not-- it's a specialty word for obsessive early music addicts. I've
only ever seen crwth in my life. But then, I never forgot it, either. One
of
those words like Prosopopeia, that are only known to people who live in a
very,

very small world.
Cheers,
Alice

bears an apparent familial esemblance to the rebec, with the
exception of the bridge being apparently not bowed, which means that
like a crwth, you end up playing drones at the same time as you play
fingered notes.

A crwth? Cool scrabble word!
