I almost forgot about the baby powder (talcum powder) in the paint. Thanks for reminding us! I'll have to give it a try again soon, to compare with the joint compound. I know joint compound has a very subtle glitter effect, from all the silica in it (or so I suspect). Baby powder wouldn't have that. I used baby on the marionnettes I built for the 2006 short film, although it was more as a ground (glue sprinkled with baby powder) to change the horrible plastic-like texture of the epoxy putty I used. Never again, it's too heavy and too brittle. I also used as a wonderful versatile texture for simulating old grime and dirt on the sets. Especially successful on the old "metal" doors. First, you spray some spray adhesive on the surface, then squish some baby powder, and repeat unevenly for a while. Then when dry, you apply a wash of dirty acrylic color (raw umber). That finish is only as strong as the adhesive. Since I used Elmer's spray glue, it was scrapable. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
