I had to laugh. When I first started my life with puppets I apprenticed myself to Jean Jenkins, a tiny little old 70-plus puppeteer. "Now, Nancy, when your arms get tired, you just tell me and we can take a little rest"
   After an excruciatingly long rehearsal time (probably five minutes!), I said, "Let's rest,Jean. My arms are killing me."
 "No, they aren't, Dear. You are a puppeteer. Puppeteers' arms don't hurt. Now just keep 'em up there!" And I did...and I do.
    And that recalls another story of when I was a "newbie." Jean took me to see a famous puppet duo. One of them was a weightlifter and the other was very slight of build. When Jean took me to meet them, my eyes popped out of my head. The weightlifter's arms were as thick as my thigh. "Oh, my gosh, if this is what puppets do to your arms, I quit!" Fortunately, I met the slightly built partner and decided to stay in after all! Nancy 
    But two things I can pass on: a puppeteer only builds one heavy puppet in his/her lifetime; and a puppeteer learns to build puppets that fit, both in weight and balance.

Hello, 
I've just begun rehearsals for an improvised puppet show where we're going to be working with the puppets over our heads for 90ish minutes.=A0 
My arms were quite quite sore the day after the first rehearsal. 


Does anyone have any stretching and/or strengthening exercises they can recommend to keep my arms happy?
