That would be good Tort reform. Outrageous monetary awards to those who suffer from these mistakes is not the answer. Those making these mistakes are not suffering too much as their insurance companies end up paying. Who pays for the insurance? Only a small part is from the one who made the "mistake," the majority of the award comes from the pool to which better doctors and all of those who can afford medical insurance pay into. There needs to be a reasonable limit to awards, coupled with some real consequence for their action. There is no responsibility with out accountability, and no accountability without appropriate consequence. Might as well include my whole axiom: There are no rights without responsibility. There is no responsibility without accountability. There is no accountability without consequence. You can quote me on that. That's as far into this debate as I will be drawn on this forum. I'm already sorry I brought it up here. (Not that I bring it up at all, just probably shouldn't have done it here.) If there is further discussion here, I will be on the sidelines.
