Subject: [Puptcrit] Puppet workshop ingredients

While I usually do only shadow puppet workshops in schools. This week
I am working with middle school students creating Rod/ bunraku
puppets and the art teacher had a couple of items that I am really
liking for their look and ease of working. This may be old hat for
many of you but I 'be curious what other ingredients you all have been
using.

First favorite was flagging ribbon that surveyors use. It comes in
many colors, you can pull a piece off the role without scissors, Its
great for jellyfish tendrils and hair. It streams through the air and
has great movement properties.

2nd is similar- hoola skirts. Also great hair, more jelly fish tendril
material.

other interesting things were old lamp shades, hoola hoops

and of course corrigated cardboard (cutting it has been a bit of
trouble as I am reluctant to hand out utility knives and scissors are
tedious with it.
dowells, string low temp glue guns.

What do you use?
