Subject: [Puptcrit] shadow puppet video animation of Lisa Barcy on youtube

Andrew Bird is a recording artist who "loops" his music.
To those who aren't familiar with the term, a looper is a guitar foot
pedal (lika a fuzz box or wah wah pedal sized box which does special
effects on a guitar or mic) If you have seen Blair Thomas perform his
New Orleans funeral piece, he uses a looper when recording horn parts
to create a soundtrack on stage. Then picking up the puppet and
performing to the music he has created which continues playing in all
the parts he "looped " on stage. I have been rehearsing and
experimenting with the technique for a new show I'm developing. I
think this device has lots of possibilities for puppeteers and that we
will see a lot of it in the future. If you have heard K T Kunstall
or Andrew Bird, they are both master's of the looper. The Units are
as cheap as $170 bucks at Guitar Center stores. I bought:
Boss RC-2 Loop Station Effect Pedal for around $175 + 25 for the
optional power cord (runs on a 9v as well)

You can use a mic or and amplified instrument or vocal as input.

You can create acapella or with instruments in other words. Or just
build a soundscape of voices.

Here is a youtube of video Andrew Bird. The video is by animator
Lisa Barcy. She uses shadow puppet technology as well as drawing
animation, it appears.
