The Orange County Performing Arts Center, in Southern California. once again provides a stage for puppets. This time, they present the local debut of the 35 year old touring company from Westfield, New York known as "Das Puppenspiel" in a performance of "Beyond the Beanstalk" which is a collection of folk tales originating in Engand,.

These delightful stories arrived in America's Appalachia with early settlers from Europe.

Das Puppenspiel (which means "Puppet Show" in English) uses large and colorful puppets operated in modified bunraku technique.. They have performed for over two and a half million viewers throughout our country. Just last week, they made a repeat appearance at the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California. Many other venues where they have performed are listed at their webpages at

Tickets are $22 at the box office (714) 556-2121

Friday, May 1st at 7 pm
Saturday, May 2 at 1 pm
Sunday, May 3 at 1 pm

The show will be staged in the intimately proportioned Founders Hall located in the large tan structure (Segerstrom Hall) at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa, CA.

Easy access from Bristol just north of the #405 San Diego Freeway. If you arrive early, there are many restaurants in the big shopping center on the west side of Bristol. You can walk via a pedestrian bridge in the shopping mall free parking area, heading eastward over Bristol to the theater complex, or park in the nearby parking structure on Town Center Drive (paid parking).

Before the show there are varied activities for young children: games, coloring and puzzles as well as a book area.

Happily, The Orange County Performing Arts Center, has a history of presenting a wide variety of quality puppet shows. In the days precedng the public performances, local school classes will visit performances.
