As for the partial list of puppeteers at the Ren Faire, (count me  
in), after the Faire split from KPFK it was run by the Patterson  
family, whose youngest son, Brian, did Punch there, and may still be  
active. SF guild members may have more up to date info on that than me.
Ken Feit is another legendary name that has come up before on this  
list, who passed through the Faire shires.
Giant puppets there included a group that was said to have spun off  
of Bread and Puppet in the early 70s. The giants you remember seeing  
in processions were probably Gog and Magog, built by the Faire's  
design dept. in imitation of the ones from that group.
And finally, getting back to Jack, most of you have probably heard  
that the Jack tales were the source of the name for those charming  
little Appalachian clogging puppets, limberjacks.
