Thanks for the advice, Brad, Alice, Mary Robinette Kowal, and David Syrotiak especially, for the very detailed explanation. All these make the decision very obvious. I just sacrificed another purchase to increase my budget for the band saw. Which means I can soon go up to $300. I recently had another customer who seemed interested in a custom marionette, but didn't actually commit. Maybe I can convince him to place the order, so I could increase budget even more and get a better band saw, sooner. A band saw was my first choice anyways, (I do have experience with it), until all the road blocks started happening today, as if to prevent me from getting one. There were very negative reviews I hadn't seen online before, unavailability in the stores that are supposed to carry them, bad customer service (unqualified and/or impolite) in most of them. Yikes! They've never made it this hard for me to spend my money! I'm a freakin' willing customer! I'll try to use that little rage tonight as a mental accessory to fit-in better on my first visit in a Goth bar. Friends insisted I go. But I digress. Monday, I'll call suppliers directly, see what's available in band saws. I checked craigslist (I don't do Ebay) and many other classified sites, and so far, nothing very promising in my price range ($200$). Like David said, a band saw is too valuable to sell. Except for the cheaper, badly designed models I've read negative reviews of. If I do find an interesting offer for a used tool, I'll insist on trying before I buy. I'll keep searching, including asking local colleagues. Maybe someone is upgrading or downsizing? Thanks again all of you, for all the advice! _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
