I think any puppeteer who performed at or in The White House is part of a unique community.

That there is a mingling of people echoes the hope "of the people, by the people & for the people". and does credit to the performers.

In an oblique way, it denotes the recogntiion by government that puppets deserve respect.

In the current obituaries for Eugenios Spatharis, the fact that Greek officials have acknowledged his importance also counts for a lot.

We don't generally get paid for being good citizens.

It IS kind of cool to perform at the White House, a "brush with
greatness" of sorts. I have several photos of me there, on the lawn and
on the steps. I guess I should put it on my list of places that I tell
people I've performed at, as I'm sure it does carry some street cred. I
never got paid for any of the gigs at the White House, but I did meet a
lot of celebrities (great and small) at those gigs. I did, however, get
paid for the other gigs in front of Presidents and Vice Presidents,
except for one or two which were publicity events.
