Subject: [Puptcrit] ...One Man's Treasure

Hi. Inspired by recent positive events that keep happening,
I feel a need to share this, perhaps it might inspire others.

I was awakened this morning by a knock on the door.
I suddenly felt I had to answer it quick, so grabbed at my bedsheets, stood
up, walked to the door, and the comforter snagged at my sculpture trestle,
sending my lighting gear crashing to the ground.
Totally Unphased for some reason, I get to the door.

My career coach is there with a set of 5 wood chisels for me. Free.
Beaver Brand, made in Sweden.
In my favorite kind of wooden box, the type with a sliding top panel (yes, I
get just as excited by the box). He's in a rush, someone's waiting in the
car, let's talk later.
Bye.

How's this possible?
He told me yesterday that another one of his "coachees" is getting rid of a
lot of things to be able to restart his life in Europe. Judging by the clues
in the box, he must have used them just once, and did not know how, so
stopped trying. (He must have used a metal hammer instead of a mallet, one
chisel's butt is damaged, but I know just how to fix it, from an old book on
hand tools).
So that man's unused bulk became my treasure. Perfect timing too, as I'm
getting equipped more and more in wood sculpting and carving equipement.
Other contracts have gotten in the way of woodworking, but now it's time I
got at it again, I have a paid contract for it.

I am so grateful to receive such a great gift! I'll put it to good use!

But the greatest gift is the gift of support and advice:
I am even more grateful at my coach, who helps me for free, to help me
become succesful at what my calling is. I was cautious at first, other
people have offered to help but were just trying to exploit me. But he
quickly proved his sincerity in actions and behavior. He put his money where
his mouth is, he ordered me three puppets so far (which he insisted paying
at full price), the first two were the mouse and bunny hand puppets I made
using hot glue molds. The third puppet is still in the works, it's the one
that allowed me to get the band saw, which he also drove me outside of town
to pick up. That third puppet is my next wooden marionette. And he's not in
a rush of getting it, encouraging me to focus on what will make me money
quicker. I'll make a clone of it as I work every step, to speed up the
process and sell faster.

I try to pay him in services and technical advice. He's a former paper mache
student of mine, I met him when he interviewed me for a job last year (he's
occasionally a freelance interviewer, but mostly a communications teacher
and efficiency consultant). I feel I'm not giving enough, for all he does.
He's the mentor I was hoping for in career developement, and he's turning
into a friend. Needless to say I'm not charging him for paper mache courses
anymore, if he ever needs more. His thoughtful advice, concrete exercises,
seasonned by harsh reality checks and deadlines, supplemented by his
professional contacts, are all put into the mix.

One Man's Treasure...
More and more, I find I am a rich person. My treasure is made up of friends,
colleagues, opportunities, passions, curiosity, discovery, memories, dreams,
techniques, tools, favorite past works I was able to keep, and many other
immaterial things too long to list. Like any manifestation of life,
everything must evolve and grow. I'm working at growing the financial aspect
into my treasure, to enjoy more of everything. Especially travel, especially
to go see and learn what's being made elsewhere. Especially to work with
companies abroad and go on tour as a performer, as once was not enough!

Wishing you all the abundance you desire,

Mathieu
